Carpet Installation in Dallas, GA
Replacing carpet in several rooms at once is a big day for a household. Furniture moves, doors come off and the house is noisy for a while. Good carpet installation in Dallas depends on planning that day in advance: what gets moved, what the crew may find under the old floor, and exactly what you have chosen to put down.
Painting, trim or a bathroom on the list too? Our page on remodeling services in Dallas describes that side of the work.
A week before installation
Start with the small things. Pack away items on shelves, dressers and tabletops, take down anything fragile near the work and empty closet floors. Disconnect electronics if you prefer to handle those yourself. If you have a piano, safe, aquarium or large cabinet, tell us early, since those are usually excluded from routine furniture moving.
Think about pets and children too. Doorways stay open much of the day, and tack strip has sharp pins until carpet covers it.
Moving furniture and lifting the old floor
The scope should say which furniture the crew moves and where it goes. Typically, rooms are done one or two at a time, with furniture shifted into a finished room or another part of the house. Old carpet and pad are cut into strips, rolled and carried out, and the scope states whether disposal is included.
Loose panels and other surprises underneath
Lifting the old carpet exposes the subfloor, and that is when hidden problems appear: subfloor panels that move underfoot, swollen panel edges, old water stains or a section that has gone soft. We tighten loose panels with screws, replace damaged pieces and pull the staples old pad leaves behind. Tack strip is checked and replaced where it is broken or rusted.
If a repair is bigger than the estimate covered, you are shown the problem and given a written price before work continues. Dallas is in Paulding County; if a hidden problem turns out to involve framing, or you decide to move plumbing or outlets while the floor is open, ask the City of Dallas Community Development office whether that work needs a permit.
Confirming your selections before the order ships
Before the order ships, we go over the style, weight, color and pad with you once more against the sample you chose. Weight is easier to judge alongside density: two carpets with the same face weight can wear very differently if one has taller, looser yarn. The pad should match what the carpet maker calls for, which supports both comfort and the manufacturer’s warranty.
Seam placement and pile direction
Seams are planned from the room dimensions, kept away from doorways and set so transition heights work at each opening. All pieces run the same pile direction, including closets and halls that open off the main rooms. On the day, pieces are cut from the roll following that plan, then seamed and power-stretched. Door swing clearance is checked once the carpet is down, and doors are trimmed if needed.
Stairs and final checks
Stairs are usually done after the rooms. Each nosing is checked and refastened if loose, then carpet is wrapped or tailored step by step. Before we finish, we go over the transition strips, stair treatment and nosings with you. Worn treads or a shaky railing are a job for our staircase remodeling in Dallas service.
Questions about installation day
How should I prepare my house for carpet installation day?
Clear small items from shelves, dressers and tabletops, empty closet floors and take fragile decorations off nearby walls. Disconnect electronics you would rather handle yourself, and tell us in advance about pianos, safes, aquariums or other heavy pieces. Plan where pets and children will be while doorways are open and tack strip is exposed.
Do I need to be home while the carpet is being installed?
Someone should be there at the start to confirm rooms, colors and furniture placement, and at the end to look over the finished work. In between, being reachable by phone is usually enough, unless a decision comes up, such as subfloor damage found under the old carpet. Agree on this ahead of time so no one waits on an answer.
Who removes and disposes of the old carpet and pad?
It depends on the scope, so look for it in writing. Removal usually means cutting the old carpet and pad into rolls, carrying them out and pulling the staples left in the subfloor. Disposal is sometimes a separate line. If you plan to take up the old carpet yourself, tell us beforehand so the estimate reflects it.
