Call the city before work starts in Stone Mountain

Stone Mountain asks people to contact City Hall before starting any construction, even work they believe needs no permit. Its Building Department also warns that skipping a required trade permit can lead to delays and penalties. For a remodel, that call makes sense once you know roughly what you want to change.

The city is in DeKalb County. Its plumbing permit application covers sewer and water service lines, measured in feet, and has to be accompanied by the contractor's state license card, business license and driver's license, or by a homeowner's affidavit when the owner applies. The same form says the permit must be posted at the job address, and inspection requests made by 4 p.m. are scheduled for the next day.

Planning a Stone Mountain remodel

Precision Remodeling works on kitchens, bathrooms, basements, additions, new homes, staircases, painting and flooring. A first visit covers measurements, the condition of what is there now, and what you want the finished room to do. From that we prepare a written estimate showing the scope, the order of work and the materials, with any undecided items flagged.

Existing finishes sometimes hide problems, such as water damage under a floor or a drain line in poor shape. If we find something like that, we explain it, show it to you and price the fix as a separate item so you can decide how to proceed.

Picking materials early helps as well. Special-order tile, cabinets and some flooring can take weeks to arrive, and having them in hand before demolition lowers the chance of a kitchen or bathroom sitting half-finished while you wait.
